Chameleon for Gmail — Browser Extension

Chameleon does not collect, store, transmit, or share any user data. All processing happens locally in your browser. No email content ever leaves your device.

What the extension does

Chameleon for Gmail adds visual lenses (Focus, Privacy, and Zoom) that change how Gmail content is displayed on your screen. Lenses modify the appearance of emails using CSS and font substitution on the client side. Chameleon modifies only the visual presentation of Gmail messages in the user interface. The original email data stored by Gmail is never modified, copied, or transmitted.

Data we collect

None. Specifically:

The extension processes Gmail content locally in the browser only to render visual lenses. No email content is collected, stored, or transmitted
No personal information is gathered
No browsing history is tracked
The extension does not collect analytics, telemetry, or usage metrics
No cookies are set
The extension does not send any network requests to external servers. All functionality runs locally within the browser

Local storage

The extension uses chrome.storage.local to save your preferences:

Which lenses are currently active
Zoom scale level
Floating toolbar position and state

This data stays on your device and is never transmitted anywhere.

Permissions

The extension requests two permissions:

storage — to save your lens preferences locally
access to https://mail.google.com/* — so the extension can apply visual lenses inside the Gmail interface

No other permissions are requested or used.

Third-party services

The extension does not communicate with any external servers, APIs, or third-party services. It operates entirely offline after installation.

Children's privacy

The extension is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes to this policy

If this policy is updated, the new version will be published at this URL. The extension version number in the store listing will reflect any significant changes.
